On Christmas Day around 7 p.m., an intruder entered a home in Fowlerville, Ill., and opened fire on the male resident inside.
The victim, however, was able to return fire, killing the assailant. The intruder turned out to be the estranged husband of someone visiting the house and had traveled from about an hour away to carry out his attack.
The armed citizen’s two gunshot wounds were fortunately non-life-threatening. (detroitnews.com; Detroit, Ill.; 12/26/25)

Restaurant owner Bill Hamrick of Memphis, Tenn., was inside his closed cafe when he heard someone smashing the lock on the front door. He got his pistol and held the surprised intruder for police, who also arrested two accomplices in a car parked nearby. (Press-Scimitar, Memphis, Tenn.)
