An armed citizen was involved in ending an active threat to the community in Muskegon, Mich., firing and striking an armed aggressor who had eluded police and was actively shooting at a passing vehicle.
The incident began early on May 5, when a Muskegon Heights police officer on his way to work noticed a disturbance and attempted to intervene. The armed suspect opened fire on the investigating officer, wounding him before escaping the scene. Five minutes later, the suspect appeared on the porch of a local home and was firing at a passing vehicle when the owner of the home opened fire with his own gun.
Struck by the homeowner’s fire, the suspect fled the scene. Officers followed the sound of the gunfire and discovered the wounded suspect in an alley, still armed. The man ignored police commands to drop the weapon, and when he appeared to point the gun at one of the responding officers, they opened fire. The suspect was later pronounced dead at an area hospital.
At the time of the incident, police say he had been previously charged with assault with intent to do great bodily harm, assault with a dangerous weapon, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person and being a fourth habitual felony offender. He was wanted on those charges when the incident occurred. (ABC 13 News; Muskegon, Mich.; 5/5/25)
