Armed Citizen® Today
In Hancock County (near Indianapolis) on July 21, a man driving a Dodge began following a man driving a Volkswagen extremely closely. When the two vehicles had to stop in a construction area, the Dodge driver exited his vehicle, aggressively approached the other driver and initiated a confrontation, pointing into the window, cussing in a “very hostile” manner and threatening bodily harm.
The Volkswagen driver apparently drew his firearm in fear for his life and the life of his female passenger, whereupon the aggressor mocked him and told him to get out of the vehicle. He then seemed like he might return to his vehicle, though, walking a few steps that way, but he turned back again toward the Volkswagen.
The armed citizen exited his vehicle, though he stayed by it, and warned the man off: “I wouldn’t do that. Don’t do that. Go back to your car.” The man continued advancing, however, so the armed citizen fired several shots, striking the assailant in the front and side. The road-rager managed to re-enter his vehicle, but soon died.
The investigation afterward revealed the assailant had a prior record of driving while intoxicated and of battery. Eyewitness accounts, forensic evidence and vehicle camera recordings backed up the armed citizen’s account of the events, and no charges were to be filed against him. Cathelene and Robert Price were preparing to leave their Indianapolis, Ind., home when a cat pulled into the driveway. A man in the car took a shot at the couple in an apparent robbery attempt, but a neighbor came to the Prices’ aid. Before the armed man could shoot the neighbor, the neighbor fired with a shotgun, critically wounding the man. (The Republic; Columbus, Ind.)
