A 50-year-old homeowner in Houston, Texas, found himself in a defensive encounter after investigating an alarm in his garage.

At about 11 p.m. on Friday, March 28, the homeowner and his pregnant wife were at home when they heard an alarm going off in their garage. The homeowner grabbed a handgun and went to investigate the source of the noise. When he walked out into the garage, he noticed the door was open and that there was an unknown man inside his wife’s car, which was parked in the driveway.

The individual then got out of the car and began moving down the driveway. The homeowner told the man to stop. At that point, the suspect allegedly “made a quick movement,” prompting the homeowner to open fire with two shots. Both fired rounds hit their mark, wounding the man once in the arm and once in the leg. The homeowner yelled for his wife to call police as he stayed with the suspect. Responding EMS personnel transported the wounded suspect to a local hospital, where he is expected to survive. He is also expected to face burglary charges. (KHOU 11 News; Houston, Texas; 3/29/25)

Two armed thugs who forced their way into the rectory of a Philadelphia, Pa., Catholic Church got an unexpected reception. After first terrorizing one of the priests in the residence, the gun-waving pair tried to break into the apartment of Msgr. Fredrick Moors.

Instead of yielding, Msgr. Moors slammed the door in their faces and called for, “Jack, get your gun,” to his assistant, Fr. John Farry. At the threat of armed resistance, the two crooks beat a hasty retreat. (The Evening Bulletin, Philadelphia, Pa.)
