A pipe-wielding aggressor was shot and wounded by a homeowner in Stuart, Va., after a series of threatening actions and property damage, according to Patrick County law enforcement officials.

The 34-year-old suspect approached the property of a 78-year-old Stuart homeowner while wielding an iron pipe. As the homeowner watched from his window, the suspect hit the man’s vehicle with the pipe before approaching the house. The suspect then began smashing windows with the pipe before turning his attention to the front door. Using the pipe, the suspect broke the door open, at which point the homeowner fired a single shot from a .38-cal. handgun, hitting the suspect.

After being shot, the suspect fled the scene in a vehicle and was later stopped by a police sergeant and two investigators, who rendered aid. Police say the 78-year-old man had a permanent protective order on the 34-year-old suspect that had been in force since April 2024. (WDJB 7 News; Patrick County, Va.; 1/23/25)

Asleep in an upstairs room at the rear of his Wilmington, N.C., gun shop, Charlie Todd was awakened by the sounds of roofing being ripped away.

When a man eventually kicked away a boarded-up skylight and dropped to the floor, Todd was waiting for him with a pistol. He forced the intruder to lie face-down until police arrived. (The News and Observer, Raleigh, N.C.)
