A dog owner in Seattle, Wash., used his firearm to defend his pet from another aggressive dog while on a walk, according to a Seattle Police Dept. investigation.

Officers say the owner was out walking with his dog on Thursday, March 13, when they encountered another individual walking their dog. Both animals began fighting, with the attacking dog grabbing hold of the other animal’s neck. The owner of the dog who was attacked attempted to separate the two animals before drawing his gun and shooting a single round into the attacking dog.

Police say the attacking dog died from its gunshot wound, and the department characterized the shooting as “self-defense.” At the time of reporting, the dog owner, who called 911 to report the encounter, was cooperating with investigators. (KGNS News; Seattle, Wash.; 3/16/25)

“They didn’t scare me when they killed my husband,” she said. “And they aren’t going to scare me now.” (St. Louis Post-Dispatch, St. Louis, Mo.)
