An Illinois concealed-carry holder came to the rescue of a woman and her children, shooting a man as he attempted to kick in the back door of the family’s apartment, according to Chicago police.
Sources say the 33-year-old suspect began threatening the woman inside the apartment before attempting to force his way in. The woman called police and a 28-year-old relative for help, and the relative was able to arrive at the scene before police. The man continued trying to force his way into the apartment, breaking a bedroom window in the process, while threatening to kill the family. The 28-year-old relative, who possessed a valid Illinois CCL, fired at the man, striking him several times.
When police arrived, the suspect was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Officers said the deceased suspect had been arrested 64 times since 2009 and had been convicted 11 times. Less than a month before the shooting, the suspect had been arrested and charged with domestic battery and two counts of criminal damage to property, but a judge granted him a pre-trial release.
