Two men have died and one woman was injured after confronting an armed biker outside of a Sioux Falls, S.D., gas station in what police are calling a “case of mistaken identity.”
One of the deceased suspects, a 23-year-old man, claimed to have been “jumped” by a group of people in the early evening of Thursday, October 10. The man was convinced that a group of motorcyclists at a local gas station had committed the assault and set out to confront the group with two other individuals, a 44-year-old man and a teenager, all of whom were followed to the station by a 42-year-old woman.
Just before meeting the motorcyclists, the trio armed themselves with baseball bats. After approaching the group, the 23-year-old assailant swung his bat at a 26-year-old motorcyclist, who ducked, drew his handgun and fired to defend himself. Rounds struck the 23-year-old assailant and the 44-year-old assailant, both of whom succumbed to their wounds. The 42-year-old woman who followed the trio to the station was armed with a handgun and pointed it at the 26-year-old biker, who fired at her and injured her.
The victim then called 911, placed his firearm on the sidewalk and put his hands on his head until police arrived. He was not arrested, and officers say he was cooperative at the scene. Police are still seeking information about the early evening assault on the 23-year-old decedent that sparked the incident. (Keloland Media Group; Sioux Falls, S.D.; 10/11/24)
