A homeowner in Kent, Wash., was able to fend off an intruder long enough to retrieve his handgun from a safe, which he used to shoot the alleged burglar, according to a KOMO News report.
The break-in occurred at about 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 4. The homeowner and his wife were asleep in bed when the male stranger walked into the bedroom and turned on the light. The awakened homeowner then immediately began throwing items toward the intruder, causing him to flee the room. That gave the homeowner a chance to grab a firearm from a nearby safe. He then fired two rounds at the burglar, who fled.
About an hour and a half later, police were called to a nearby apartment to treat a person with a gunshot wound. Upon arrival, officers found a 39-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his torso. The man was allegedly identified as the burglar who had broken into the family’s home earlier. Police confirmed the homeowner will not face charges for the self-defense shooting.
“This is my safehouse, this is my home, this is where we live,” the homeowner told KOMO News. “I gotta protect my family. That’s just the end of it.” (KOMO News; Kent, Wash.; 9/4/24)
