A 29-year-old burglary suspect was hospitalized after encountering an armed father inside a Citrus Heights, Calif., home.
The break-in occurred around 5:30 p.m. on July 18. The homeowner, who was inside the house with his three children, heard what was described as a “loud commotion.” A doorbell camera recorded the suspect looking around, then entering the house, where he began attacking the man’s 14-year-old and 11-year-old sons.
The father sprang into action and pummeled the intruder “until he was unresponsive.” He then held the intruder at gunpoint until law enforcement arrived. Police say that the suspect had been previously charged in at least one prior incident. He faces charges of burglary and assault. The homeowner says he will invest in more home security.
“It makes you feel unsafe, makes you feel like you want to move somewhere else,” the man told CBS Sacramento. “But it doesn’t matter where you move, you’ll always have to secure your home.” (CBS News; Citrus Heights, Calif.; 7/19/24)

Ed Osborne heard a shot in his Ukiah, Calif., tavern and rushed in to find a holdup man with a sawed-off shotgun standing over his bartender. Osborne, believing the bartender dead, shot the bandit fatally. Later, it developed that the bandit had merely clubbed the bartender with his sawed-off gun, causing it to fire accidentally. A coroner’s jury ruled the bandit-shooting justifiable homicide. (Sacramento Bee)
