An armed citizen reacted to an apparent threat as he observed two teens breaking into a vehicle in an apartment complex parking lot in Naples, Fla., on Wednesday, July 17.
The two suspects, both teenagers, were attempting to break into the parked vehicle and were wearing all-black clothing and face coverings, according to the witness. The witness confronted the two teens about their actions, and that’s when the witness allegedly noticed the 17-year-old burglar moving a hand into his waistband as if reaching for a weapon. The witness drew his own handgun and fired, causing the two suspects to flee the scene.
Both suspects were found a short distance away. One was suffering from a gunshot wound and was flown to an area hospital for treatment and was arrested after receiving medical care. The other suspect was taken into custody at the scene. Neither suspect was a resident at the apartment complex where the alleged attempted vehicle burglary took place. Tormented by burglaries of his Seiling, Okla., cafe, Floyd Hansen slept in the back room, hoping to catch the thieves. When he awakened to sounds of breaking and entering, Hansen crept to the front and fired his pistol at prowlers inside the restaurant.
