Seekins Precision is known for modern sporting rifles and precision platforms, and the company’s latest product is in the latter category. Designed for a U.S. Special Operations Command contract, the Seekins Interchangeable Caliber (SIC) rifle is a modular, bolt-action precision design that allows for easy customization by the owner.
The heart of the SIC is a one-piece, machined-steel receiver to which all other components attach. As the receiver does not sit in a separate stock or chassis, there are no action screws to torque or bedding concerns. An integral 20 MOA rail is machined into the top of the receiver, allowing for the direct mounting of scope rings. The SIC bolt uses three locking lugs and has a 60-degree bolt throw. Extraction is accomplished by dual extractors.
As its name implies, the SIC is designed to quickly change its chambering and can accommodate cartridges from short-action .308 Win.-class up to magnums like the .338 Lapua. Cartridges can be switched by changing out the barrel and bolt head, and the magazine well and magazine, if necessary, due to a change in cartridge length. The barrel can be swapped without specialized tools using Seekins’ Quick Change Barrel System as introduced on the HIT rifle.
Changing the bolt head and magazine well are toolless processes. Current chamberings include 6.5 Creedmoor, .308 Win., .300 Win. Mag., .300 PRC, .300 Norma Mag., .338 Norma Mag. and .338 Lapua Mag. The 26-inch barrel is carbon-fiber-wrapped 416R stainless steel with hand-lapped, single-point-cut rifling. Flats machined into the barrel’s exposed steel surfaces assist in changing barrels or suppressors.
Magazines are double-column and have a capacity of 12 rounds, even in the largest magnum cartridges. They are released with an ambidextrous “paddle” release in front of the triggerguard. The magazine well is held in place by push pins.
The SIC’s trigger interface is of the Remington Model 700 pattern, and the rifle comes supplied with a user-adjustable TriggerTech Diamond two-stage unit. It is placed in a trigger module that includes the grip. With the magazine well removed, it slides out of the receiver for easy trigger changes or maintenance. The grip is AR-compatible. A bilateral thumb safety serves as a thumbrest when it is in the fire position.
The rifle’s stock is designed for precision shooting, but folds for easy transport. When folded, the rifle has an overall length of just 37.5 inches. It has an adjustable cheek height, cheek cant, length-of-pull and buttpad angle that can be changed without tools. The stock’s straight-line design, combined with the low bore height, promises to offer manageable recoil in even the largest magnum chamberings. Most fasteners on the rifle use a T25 Torx head, and a supplied tool is stored in the rifle’s buttpad.
The rifle’s handguard mounts to the receiver to free-float the barrel. It is made of aluminum and has a Picatinny rail along its top surface that has the same 20 MOA bias as the receiver rail for perfect interfacing. It also has machined in M-Lok attachment points and an ARCA rail.
Receiver, handguard and magazine well are given a flat dark-earth Cerakote finish. The rifle weighs 15 pounds, 5 ounces and has an overall length of 47 inches.
