Traffic Stop Leads to Gun and Drug Charges in Willimantic

A routine traffic stop in Willimantic turns serious as police arrest 34-year-old Richard Martinez for possession of a loaded handgun and drug paraphernalia. Initial suspicions arose when officers pulled him over for operating an unregistered vehicle, which led to Martinez fleeing the scene and resisting arrest before he was successfully detained.

Upon his arrest, authorities discovered Martinez was not only carrying a Smith & Wesson revolver with a defaced serial number, but he also had an active warrant and was listed on the state’s Deadly Weapon Offender Registry. Facing multiple charges—including criminal possession of a firearm and drug paraphernalia—Martinez is being held on a $250,000 bond with his arraignment set for Thursday.
