Jason Meister, a member of former President Trump’s advisory board, advocates for January 6 to be designated a national holiday, claiming it would eventually resemble July 4 celebrations. Meister argues that this day should be dedicated to honoring those he describes as “American heroes” who protested what they believed to be a stolen election, asserting that it is a crucial step in recognizing their sacrifices.

Meister, who has been vocal about supporting individuals labeled as “political prisoners” from the January 6 events, plans to discuss this proposal with Trump and hopes to see the mention of these individuals in future commemorations, including an upcoming national monument. He has also proposed that these individuals perform the National Anthem at the 2027 NFL Draft, emphasizing the need for acknowledgment of their experiences and struggles following the Capitol unrest.
