Ukraine Seeks 0.25% of GDP from Allies for Weapons

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky appeals to Western nations to allocate 0.25% of their GDP to enhance Ukraine’s weapons production capabilities amid rising hostilities with Russia. He emphasizes that a more robust military production is critical as Ukraine currently meets about 40% of its defense needs through domestic sources and plans to expand through joint production agreements with countries like Denmark, Canada, and Germany.

Zelensky’s call comes as NATO members prepare to discuss increased defense spending, with the Secretary-General proposing 5% of GDP contributions. Ukraine aims to launch initiatives to export its military production technologies and engage in collaborative projects on drones, missiles, and artillery. The urgency of these talks reflects the intensified military conflict and Ukraine’s need for enhanced firepower and support.
