Jayden Stephenson, a 21-year-old man, has been identified as the individual killed in a police-involved shooting in Miami Township on Wednesday. Police arrived at the incident following a 911 call where a woman reported that her son was threatening family members with a knife. Despite efforts from six officers to de-escalate the situation over a span of seven minutes, Stephenson allegedly refused to comply with demands to drop the weapon.
Authorities attempted to use less lethal methods, including a taser and a beanbag shotgun, before one or more officers fired shots when Stephenson moved toward them with the knife. After the shooting, which resulted in his death at the scene, five of the six officers present have been placed on paid administrative leave as the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation conducts an inquiry into the incident. Details surrounding the shooting and the officers’ actions are under scrutiny, raising questions about police response in critical situations.
