Connecticut lawmakers are moving toward allowing individuals and municipalities to hold gun makers and dealers legally accountable for harm caused by firearms, potentially positioning the state as the tenth in the U.S. to take such action. This legislation, which has garnered support from gun safety advocates, is poised to address the significant issue of gun violence, citing that a mere five percent of gun dealers are linked to 90 percent of illegal sales.

Opinions are divided among legislators, with proponents arguing that this approach is essential for public health and safety, while opponents, including representatives from the gun industry, contend that existing regulations are already robust. Notably, Attorney General William Tong supports the bill, describing it as a necessary measure to enforce safety compliance among vendors, further intensifying the conversation about preventing illegal firearms transactions.
