Cincinnati Man Forms Nonprofit for Gun Violence Survivors

Cincinnati Man Forms Nonprofit for Gun Violence Survivors

Rayshawn Smith, who became partially paralyzed after a shooting in July 2013, establishes Unheard Voices, a nonprofit aimed at supporting other victims of gun violence in similar situations. After struggling to find resources and even living out of his car, Smith seeks to create a community that understands the unique challenges faced by individuals affected by gun violence.

Alongside building support networks, Unheard Voices promotes active lifestyles through wheelchair basketball and other sports, catering to young victims eager to stay active post-injury. Celebrating National Gun Violence Survivors Week, the organization will host a BBQ on June 6, welcoming those in wheelchairs to join in solidarity, with participants encouraged to wear orange to raise awareness.
