North Dakota Game and Fish has announced the results of its post-season survey for the 2024 deer hunting season, revealing that over 50,000 deer gun licenses were issued, with a 55% success rate among gun hunters. Meanwhile, bow hunters achieved a success rate of 26% with 22,000 deer harvested from 27,000 active hunters, indicating a shift in deer population dynamics that concerns state officials.

Doug Leier, an outreach biologist with the department, notes that diminishing habitat is contributing to the overall decline in deer numbers compared to previous years. With fewer deer observed in the wild, both hunters and wildlife managers are urged to adapt to these changes and consider the long-term impact on hunting in the state.
