A Concord police officer fires his weapon as he attempts to apprehend a driver who fled during a traffic stop Thursday night. The incident escalated shortly after 10:10 PM when the 37-year-old suspect exited his vehicle and ran, prompting the officer’s response; fortunately, no one was injured by the gunfire.

Police report that the suspect, now in custody, was found hiding with a firearm near Sutter Street and Clayton Road following an extensive search involving a police dog and aerial assistance from the Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office. This marks the second officer-involved shooting for Concord police this year, raising concerns about transparency as officials have not released the identity of the involved officer or footage from prior incidents. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the event to reach out to Detective Justin Riche at 925-603-5922.
