Traditions Firearms has been in business for more than 40 years, and through much of that time, most of the company’s product line was focused on traditional muzzleloaders, as well as modern, break-action muzzleloaders designed for hunting. In the early 2000s, though, the company began expanding into single-shot centerfire hunting rifles with its Outfitter design, a single-shot rifle chambered for popular hunting cartridges. The design evolved into a G2 model in 2017, followed only a few years later by another improved G3 model in 2020. In 2024, Traditions added even more features into the design to release the Outfitter G3 Pro. Watch our video above to see this single-shot rifle in use on the range.
Compared to its standard G3 models, the company’s G3 Pro design has a few notable, standout features. To start with, the stock has a great deal of adjustability built into it, ensuring that shooters can fit themselves to the rifle, as well as obtain a comfortable cheekweld for the included 3-9X optic. Spacers are included to adjust the gun’s length of pull, and the adjustable comb can be raised or lowered by adjusting a screw in the side of the stock.
At the muzzle end of the rifle, Traditions has included a threaded portion with standard 5/8×24 TPI threads, and from the factory, this rifle is equipped with a radial brake to reduce recoil. The addition of a threaded muzzle also makes it easy to add a suppressor where legal, and thanks to the gun’s single-shot, break-action configuration, there are no moving components in the action, allowing hunters to really reduce their sound profile in the woods.
Another notable feature of the Outfitter G3 Pro that has to be highlighted is its chambering options. This particular model is chambered for the 350 Legend cartridge, a design becoming more popular in states that have legalized straight-wall centerfire cartridge for hunting in recent years. Most rifles offered in the G3 Pro lineup are chambered for popular straight-wall cartridges, such as 450 Bushmaster, .45-70 Govt., and 360 Buckhammer, making them popular options for hunters in states where these cartridges are legal for use.
On the range, our experience with the Outfitter G3 Pro highlighted a number of other positive features. For starters, the gun weighs just a little over 6 lbs., which made it handy, even with the mounted optic. Another nice added benefit is that Traditions mounts and boresights these rifles at the factory, making them ready to use straight from the box. We also appreciated the clean Elite XT trigger system used on these rifles, which was introduced in all G3 models starting in 2020. These trigger systems allow the rifle to be opened, loaded and unloaded safely with the cross-bolt safety engaged. Takedown and transport was also simplified, thanks to the QD takedown button located on the underside of the gun’s fore-end. For a simple, durable, single-shot rifle that’s field-ready straight from the factory, there are few better options than the Outfitter G3 Pro.
