In response to a troubling surge of child shootings in north St. Louis, Crown Mart and the Breaking Generational Poverty Foundation launch a Gun Violence Awareness Event. This initiative follows recent incidents where three toddlers were injured over just seven weeks, prompting local leaders to distribute over 200 gun locks during their first event outside the Crown Mart on Dr. Martin Luther King Drive.
Precious Jones, founder of the Breaking Generational Poverty Foundation, expressed pride in the community’s strong turnout, emphasizing the urgency of addressing gun violence. Starting next week, the initiative will expand citywide, hosting weekly events aimed at providing gun safety tools and educational resources, as organizers emphasize their commitment to keeping children safe and informing the public about rising hazards, such as fentanyl contamination in common substances.
