I turned 72 not too long ago — I know, I couldn’t believe it either — and part of getting older means becoming increasingly acquainted with glasses and red dot sights.
That brings me to the Holosun EPS CORE-RD-MRS. Say that three times fast, by golly.
It’s a compact, enclosed aluminum optic with a full-size viewing window and a 3 MOA dot. The multi-reticle system gives you a dot, circle-and-dot or circle-and-crosshair option. I’ve taken a particular liking to the circle-and-crosshair option.
One feature I really appreciate is the solar charging system. The internal battery is rechargeable, and bright light can help keep it charged. Forget about it for a while? Just leaving the gun somewhere with plenty of light can help.
Then there’s Holosun’s Shake Awake technology. No, you don’t actually have to shake the gun. Let the sight go to sleep, pick it up normally and — lo and behold — the reticle is there.
It’s also built around the RMSc footprint and designed to resist water and vibration. Better yet, the controls are refreshingly simple. Some red dots seem to require pushing buttons, turning around, touching the top of your head and rotating the gun around the Earth’s axis. Not this one.
Whether aging eyes have you exploring red dots, you’re looking for an edge in competition, or you’re considering one for a duty gun, quality matters. You tend to get what you pay for with optics.
