The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) ramps up its efforts against illegal street takeovers, making seven arrests over one weekend. This initiative follows numerous complaints from community members regarding reckless driving, leading police to respond to multiple large gatherings across the city, including one with 60 cars at the Pyramids along North Michigan Road.
As part of a year-long campaign, IMPD has reported nearly 70 arrests this year, alongside over 250 citations and the impounding of more than 30 vehicles. IMPD Officer Tommy Thompson confirms the department’s commitment to addressing this hazardous behavior, emphasizing the need for tougher state penalties and potential vehicle confiscation as they continue to prioritize community safety.
