I asked my friend Bill Laughridge, the nefarious character who founded Cylinder & Slide, to send me a few of his parts kits because I wanted to show you just how much is available for the 1911 and Browning Hi-Power.

For the 1911, there are options like a stainless TAC-2 four-pound trigger pull set, an ultralight 3.5-pound set and a five-piece spur hammer set. You get the important bits and pieces together — things like the hammer, sear, disconnector and springs, depending on the kit.

The quality is what really stands out. These aren’t bargain-bin parts. They’re made from high-quality steels, precisely machined and heat-treated, and the kits even include a Rockwell hardness test certificate.

Hi-Power owners aren’t forgotten, either. Cylinder & Slide offers several kits for them, including an ultralight duty set and a no-bite Commander hammer, sear and spring set. That’s particularly handy because quality Browning Hi-Power parts aren’t always easy to find.

These are sold as drop-in kits, and in my experience they’re pretty darn close. Of course, every gun is a little different, so you may occasionally have to do some fitting. And anytime you’re replacing fire-control components, thoroughly test the gun afterward to make sure everything functions properly before relying on it.

If you’ve got an old 1911 or Hi-Power with a mushy trigger, or you’ve simply been wanting a different hammer or trigger setup, Cylinder & Slide gives you plenty of ways to upgrade it. And if you call Bill, tell him Roy sent you.
