I didn’t expect to kill a buck. Didn’t deserve to.Last year, by the second to last weekend of Montana’s month-long rifle season, I’d gone deer hunting a grand total of zero times. My focus had admittedly been elsewhere: it was my bird dog Gunney’s first season, I was deep in the grips of the fall semester of my final year of graduate school, and my girlfriend and I were unexpectedly living in an Airbnb as the contractors our landlord hired for emergency repairs found more and more damage in the flooring. But I wanted to get out deer hunting if only…
Appendix carry, also known as AIWB (appendix inside the waistband) carry, has become one of the most popular carry positions in recent years. It has also, somewhat strangely, become one of the most polarizing forms of carry within the firearm community. For some, it’s not just a carry option, it’s a way of life. For others, it’s a literal threat to their manhood. As with nearly everything on this good Earth, there are pros and cons, and many people unfairly condemn appendix carry without fully appreciating its benefits. At the same time, it’s fair to say that many people who…

More than six years after a spate of gun violence in September 2019, former Columbia Mayor Brian Treece and local police officers offer insights into the community turmoil that unfolded. Over just two weeks, the city experienced multiple shootings, resulting in the deaths of several young individuals, including 18-year-old Nadria Wright and 19-year-old E’quan Spain, with many cases still unresolved. “It felt like a hurricane of violence,” Treece reflects, highlighting the tension between rival factions in the city. With a notable spike in homicides, Columbia law enforcement initiated a Violent Crimes Task Force in response to community demands for increased…
Weldon Boyd, the gunman involved in a prominent road rage incident that resulted in the death of Scott Spivey, files a lawsuit against attorney Mark Tinsley. Boyd alleges Tinsley is leveraging the case to increase his own fame after representing Spivey’s family, claiming the attorney’s actions are obstructing his pursuit of justice. Spivey was fatally shot on September 9, 2023, during an altercation while driving, prompting state officials to rule Boyd acted in self-defense under the castle doctrine. In his complaint, Boyd contends that Tinsley has manipulated media narratives for personal gain, asserting that the attorney’s strategy undermines his right…

A deadly confrontation between an armed robbery suspect and Denver police results in nearly 70 gunshots fired, leaving one officer and a store clerk injured. The incident occurred at a Maverik convenience store, where 35-year-old Hosea Moore demanded that clerks lock the doors and call the police before engaging in a standoff. Police indicated that Moore, who was ultimately killed in the skirmish, fired at officers multiple times, prompting their return fire. Prior to the first shots fired, Moore attempted to rob the store but was seen consuming alcohol and smoking a cigarette while waiting for police, according to police…
I recently visited the Gun Blog Blacklist site. One of its key features is lists of gun and prepping blog sites. The “Prepper Blogs”, down in their lower-right column. I was taken aback when I found that the majority of those linked sites are now either offline, or they haven’t had any posts in more than two years. And of the few that are still active, many of those have switched to all un-dated posts, presumably to obfuscate a bit on how often they post. (Which in fact is infrequently.) Next, I tried visiting the Top Prepper Websites ranking site,…
The Denver Police Department has released body camera footage from two recent shootings, highlighting the tense circumstances surrounding these incidents. In a gas station robbery on October 27, officers fatally shot a robbery suspect, 35-year-old Hosea Rasheed Moore, after he opened fire, injuring two clerks and an officer who required surgery. The injured clerks were caught in the crossfire, with one hit in the leg and the other in the foot. In a second incident on November 2, officers responded to reports of a mass gathering where gunfire erupted, injuring a juvenile suspect along with two others. The situation escalated…
