And I think that like level of addiction of like I know…
00:00:12 Speaker 1: Rifle shots aren’t unusual during deer season in Borough, Minnesota, but in twenty sixteen, one of those shots wasn’t aimed at a white tail. It was aimed at a husband and father of four, shot with his own rifle by a perpetrator who might be a stranger or someone much closer to home. Now, nearly ten years later, a gun, a van, and whispers in a small Midwestern town, point in every direction and nowhere at all. That’s next on blood Trails. When fifteen year old Jonathan Briske got home from school on November seventh, twenty sixteen,…

JWR’s Introductory Note: The following is an update and expansion to a post that I made in SurvivalBlog back in November, 2005. It is part of a series of SurvivalBlog 20th Anniversary re-posts, in recognition of the fact that the majority of readers did not join us until recent years. — Many letters and e-mails I’ve received over the years have mentioned motor oil and chainsaw fuel mixing oil. That reminded me about a subject that I’ve meant to address on the blog: the key considerations of oil and lubricant storage. It is important to think through all of your…

The first known death from the tick-borne meat allergy Alpha-Gal Syndrome (AGS) has been reported this month in New Jersey. In September 2024, a 47-year-old airline pilot returned home after an afternoon barbecue, and despite feeling well enough to mow the lawn and read a newspaper, he began to suffer severe abdominal distress and was found dead by his son in the family’s bathroom later that evening. The man had no history of other health conditions, and medical examiners could not determine the cause of death, listing it as “unexplained” on the man’s autopsy report. By chance, the man’s wife discussed…

If you take a peek inside the average hunter’s gun safe, you’ll find many of the same popular cartridges: .30-06 Springfield, .308 Win., .270 Win., .243 Win., .30-30 Win., .300 Win. Mag., and a few others. You don’t need me to sing the praises of those old-school cartridges. They’ve been hammering big game for decades, and the world doesn’t need another “10 Best” list that includes the 7mm Rem. Mag.Instead, I want to point your attention to a few options off the beaten path. These cartridges aren’t obscure or obsolete like those you’ll find in the Forgotten Cartridges series. But even…
The Benelli M4 set the standard for a combat-grade semi-automatic shotgun when it was adopted by the Marine Corps as the M1014. While it proved to be a popular shotgun, civilian users in this country have had to settle for a version missing some of the features of its Marine brethren. That all changed with Benelli’s introduction of the new-for-2025 M4 EXT. With the new EXT model, Benelli is offering civilians the same features found on the law-enforcement and military versions of the M4. Black MultiCam finish shown. Imported shotguns and semi-automatic rifles must conform to the standards of 18…
00:00:05 Speaker 1: It’s mid November and the white tail rud is in full swing. You kind of just have to be there to understand. But a buck walking through timber a glow with fallen leaves is rare. It’s a fleeting moment and it impacts the hunter at a deep level. I don’t want to over romanticize it, but the experiences that we have in wild places are often significant highlights in our lives, and these stories on this episode celebrate these moments of engagement with wild places and the moments we have with our friends. A lot of these…
