One of the questions I hear a lot is, “What do you actually use a lathe for in your shop?” The answer is: more than you might think. Sure, it handles gunsmithing chores, but it’s just as handy for solving everyday reloading problems — like this one. The post In the Shop with Roy: Lathe Project appeared first on GUNS Magazine. Armed Citizen® Today On Christmas Day around 7 p.m., an intruder entered a home in Fowlerville, Ill., and opened fire on the male resident inside. The victim, however, was able to return fire, killing the assailant. The intruder turned out to be the estranged husband of someone visiting the house and had traveled from about an hour away to carry out his attack. The armed citizen’s two gunshot wounds were fortunately non-life-threatening. (detroitnews.com; Detroit, Ill.; 12/26/25) From the Armed Citizen® Archives – August 1970Restaurant owner Bill Hamrick of Memphis, Tenn., was inside his closed cafe when he heard someone smashing…
Caracal is a firearm manufacturer based in the United Arab Emirates, but in recent years, the company has taken steps to bring firearm production stateside under its Caracal USA subsidiary. The CMP9K is one of the models being produced at the company’s new factory located in Lewiston, Idaho. The design originates from a submachine gun developed to replace the aging stock of Heckler & Koch MP5s in UAE military service, and this semi-automatic-only, pistol variant offers several benefits to American firearm enthusiasts. The 9mm-chambered CMP9K is constructed using a matched aluminum receiver set, consisting of an upper and lower receiver,…
For essentially nothing but time and effort, this forgotten little vintage .22 is shooting again — and shooting well. At 20 yards, it prints tight, ragged groups despite a rough bore. Proof that even the humblest rifles deserve a second chance. The post Vintage .22 Restoration appeared first on GUNS Magazine. Read the full article here
On an average day, the volume of eForms submitted to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) runs somewhere around 2,500. Things changed dramatically on New Year’s Day, when the fee for a National Firearm Act tax stamp dropped from $200 to $0. Approximately 150,000 enthusiasts filed their paperwork through ATF’s electronic system in just the first 24 hours of 2026. The Internet-based portal struggled with the surge, and on January 2, the National Shooting Sport Foundation—the firearm industry’s trade association—issued a bulletin to members. “As a result of this volume, ATF is experiencing intermittent IT system glitches…
Javelina are one of the most underappreciated of all our big game species. Their unique history and physical features spark curiosity from hunters and other wildlife enthusiasts. What is not to like about a native pig-like critter that ekes out a living in dry, cactus-dominated Southwestern landscapes? They are incredibly interesting native animals that can be hunted at times when other big game seasons have closed for the year. What other hooved big game animal does the taxidermist mount with its mouth open to show its huge, sharp canines in a menacing way? The javelina’s eyesight is not great, but don’t…

Back in 2016, the organizer for a local church’s senior citizen ministry approached me regarding a program she wanted someone to present on family emergency preparedness. In the two previous years our area experienced a “thousand-year flood” and the wind effects from a passing hurricane. Several of the seniors had requested a speaker who could help them think through steps that could be taken to minimize the impacts of another storm or similar short-term disaster. This article is a summary of what that presentation has become after multiple iterations over the past ten years. My hope in sharing is that…
(Continued from Part 1.) The next topic is water. I begin with the low hanging fruit of having water stored at all times. It hurts my soul to thoughtlessly parrot the “one gallon per person per day minimum” tripe we have all heard so many times. My recommendation is to store no less than three gallons per person per day or ten gallons each. I follow this up by encouraging each family set a goal of having a five-gallon water jug set aside for last minute filling for each person. For those who lament storage space, I recommend the collapsible…
