United Kingdom manufacturer Shield Sights is a pioneer in the field of electronic optics on handguns for competition and self-defense. While most of the company’s contributions were behind the scenes, its introduction of the RMSc (Reflex Mini Sight Compact) brought the red dot into the mainstream for compact, concealed carry firearms. New for 2026, the company is bringing out its latest product, the OSMx, a micro red dot designed for competitive shooting. The Shield OSMx takes the OMSsc sight introduced last year and gives it a larger lens. The OSMx is based on the OMSsc (Open Mini Sight subcompact) introduced…

While shotguns provide a host of benefits, one of the most overlooked is that they are a fair bit quieter than most pistols and rifles. To that end, adding a suppressor to one only expands their versatility. Suppressing a shotgun is easier said than done, though, as options are limited, and mounting one involves using the threads that normally hold a choke. Alas, at that point, weight becomes an issue, as shotgun shells require more suppressor volume to house and vent the enormous amount of gas created when they are fired. Taking these issues into account, Yankee Hill Machine (YHM)…

Anyone reading this could look at my daily step counts since early February and know exactly what I’ve been up to. For me, it’s partly a coping mechanism, and partly a thrill in itself to comb the whitetail woods in search of discarded headgear. Peak shed season falls perfectly between trapping season and turkey season, which gives my outdoor-obsessed brain something to cling to in the void. But shed hunting on public land is often a low-odds deal, no matter how hopeful I am when I walk out the door. This is the reality for a lot of hunters, and it…

Last month, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) announced nearly $1.3 billion is being delivered to state conservation and wildlife access programs. The funds—which also help operate, maintain and establish target ranges nationwide—are derived from Pittman-Robertson excise taxes paid by firearm and ammunition manufacturers and Dingell-Johnson excise taxes paid by the angling industry. A total of $804,790,385 of the nearly $1.3 billion is directly sourced from firearm and ammunition excise taxes paid by manufacturers. Since the program began in 1937, more than $31 billion has been distributed through annual apportionments to states. “State wildlife agencies are critical partners who are…
