One of the dominant brands within the marketplace of 2011 handguns is European American Armory Corp., and the company has expanded its 2011-style Witness 2311 line of handguns produced by Turkish manufacturer Girsan to encompass a number of different variants and chamberings. One of the latest options is the Witness2311 CMXX, which incorporates a large, single-port compensator at the muzzle end. Watch our latest “Gun of the Week” episode above to see the details.
“EAA has really done a lot of work in making a ton of different versions of the 2011-style handgun available over the past few years,” American Rifleman Executive Editor Evan Brune said. “They really kind of led the charge in making this a really relevant platform recently, and the CMXX is their latest take on this sort of compact, concealable and also still very controllable 2011.”
The EAA Witness2311 CMXX is outfitted with a 4.25-inch bull barrel, which ends with a single-port compensator that’s integrated into the profile of the slide and railed dustcover.
“One of the other nice things that EAA has done with this platform is they’ve made it available in a number of different chamberings,” Brune said. “So not only is this in 9 mm Luger, this is also available in 10 mm Auto and .45 ACP.”
In our .45 ACP-chambered test sample, the double-stack magazine capacity is 11 rounds. For 10 mm Auto-chambered examples, magazine capacity tops out at 15 rounds, and for 9 mm-chambered guns, magazine capacity is 17 rounds. One of the other notable features of the CMXX is, unlike other 2011-style designs, it lacks the grip safety at the backstrap while still preserving the frame beavertail to protect the strong hand against hammer bite.
“Holster-wise, one of the things to look at is a lot of people are looking for holsters to fit the Witness2311 line, and a number of holsters designed for the Springfield Prodigy line of 2011s will fit this example,” Brune said. “So if you’re looking for holster fits, [that’s] something to note.”
