Taurus USA recently expanded its revolver line with the 66 Combat, a larger, all-steel revolver chambered for the .357 Magnum cartridge. Watch our “Gun of the Week” video above to see the 66 Combat in use on the range and see the details of what Taurus calls the “final word in fighting revolvers.”

“This is a brand new fighting revolver from Taurus,” American Rifleman Executive Editor Jay Grazio said. “It’s a seven-round, .357 Magnum revolver with a fluted cylinder, fiber-optic front sight, rear notch, screws for mounting optics, should you desire. There’s serrations on the top of the barrel, Hogue Monogrip grips. Double-action-only operation and a completely shrouded ejector rod that should eject most empties.”

Size-wise, the Taurus 66 Combat measures 8.4 inches long, 5.7 inches high and 1.5 inches wide across the cylinder. The gun’s all-steel construction does mean that it weighs more than most typically carry revolvers at 36.5 ounces, unloaded.

“It’s on the larger side, but not too daunting given proper gear for the revolver fan who wants a robust defensive revolver,” Grazio said. “It’s hard to envision how the 66 Combat could be improved. An excellent trigger, highly visible front sight, medium frame and purchase enhancing grip make this a great gun to shoot, meaning you’re more likely to practice with it.”
