Norfolk Man Charged After Police Shooting Incident

A Norfolk man, Glendon A. Sumner, faces two firearms charges after being shot by police early Sunday morning at an apartment complex near MacArthur Center Mall. The incident occurred around 3:45 a.m. when officers responded to multiple reports of a person wielding a weapon.

Upon arrival, police found the 38-year-old Sumner holding a firearm and instructed him to put it down, which he allegedly disregarded. The resultant shooting left him with a non-life-threatening injury, and he has since been charged with brandishing a firearm and reckless handling of a firearm. The Virginia State Police are currently investigating the incident at the request of Norfolk authorities.
