Rock River Arms, the Colona, Ill.-based firearm manufacturer, is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. The company’s story really began in 1994, when brothers Mark and Chuck Larson launched a small operation called Tolerance Plus from a two-story garage along the Rock River in Cleveland, Ill.

It originally produced high-quality custom 1911 components, but when the company incorporated as Rock River Arms in 1996, it expanded into AR-platform manufacturing. From the first custom 1911 sold in 1997, to the launch of the company’s first complete LAR-15 rifles, Rock River Arms built its momentum and garnered a reputation for high standards and high-quality manufacturing. As the firm’s enviable reputation grew, so did the company’s footprint. The growth led to the construction of its Colona, Ill., facility in 2002. By 2006, to address further demand, operations were expanded by more than 30,000 square feet at the site.

Rock River Arms has continued to evolve with the modern shooter, pioneering platforms and calibers that helped shape the industry over the last three decades. It was one of the first companies to introduce an AR-style 9 NATO-chambered rifle—the LAR-9. The firm expanded into larger caliber systems with the LAR-8, delivered piston-driven technology in its LAR-PDS, and introduced innovative crossover platforms like the LAR-47.

Rock River Arms continues that legacy with a growing lineup that now includes precision bolt-action rifles, modern sporting rifles and innovative platforms designed for hunters, competitors, law enforcement professionals and dedicated firearm enthusiasts alike.

The company’s 30-year milestone serves as a tribute to the legacy of co-founder Mark Larson, whose passion and leadership helped establish Rock River Arms into the industry leader it is today. He passed away in 2013, but his influence continues to shape the company’s culture, products and commitment to excellence.

Rock River Arms firearms remain proudly made in the United States—as they have been for three decades—and are designed and manufactured with the same precision, durability and reliability shooters have trusted for generations. While the company looks toward the future, its mission remains unchanged: Build firearms that perform when it matters most.
