The Ruger Super Wrangler has become one of my favorite rimfires. Chambered in both .22 LR and .22 Magnum, equipped with adjustable sights and typically selling for around $300, it’s hard to argue with the value.

Recently, my friend Andy Larsson — yes, the same Andy Larsson behind Skinner Sights — sent me one of his new Ruger Super Wrangler Optics Mounts. The concept is wonderfully simple. Remove the factory front and rear sights, bolt on the rail, and you’re in business. Installation took all of about a minute.

I happened to have an old 2X Redfield pistol scope sitting around, and it mounted right up. In less than five minutes, the Super Wrangler had been transformed into something entirely different.

What’s interesting is that you don’t necessarily need a pistol scope. Since it’s a .22, a standard rifle scope can work just fine from a benchrest position. The gun itself isn’t any more accurate, of course, but the added magnification can help you take full advantage of the accuracy that’s already there.

I’ve done some tuning work on Super Wranglers before — action work, forcing cone cleanup and a fresh muzzle crown — and they’ve proven capable of impressive accuracy. This setup should make it even easier to see what the gun can really do.

I haven’t had a chance to get it to the range yet, but I was so intrigued by the idea I had to share it. For about $50 and a few minutes with an Allen wrench, Skinner’s Super Wrangler rail opens up a whole new world of rimfire fun.
