Armed Citizen® Today
In Rochester, N.Y., during the early morning hours of Aug. 3, a homeowner was awakened by the noise of someone breaking in through his back door. The homeowner, however, was a legally armed citizen. When police arrived, they found the intruder dead on the floor of the kitchen.
Reports noted the home had been burglarized at least twice in recent months and that the trespasser was “known to law enforcement” and on parole for a previous burglary conviction. A police captain noted that it seemed to be a “justified shooting.” (rochesterfirst.com; Rochester, N.Y.; 8/3/26)

A paroled convicted murderer, fleeing from sheriff’s deputies from three Texas counties following a three-day crime spree, ran afoul of the armed citizens near Magnolia. When one resident fired a .357 Mag. at the fugitive after hearing the screams of a neighbor, the man sought refuge at another home. The homeowner brandished a hunting rifle, and the parolee fled into the brush, where he was apprehended by police. (The Chronicle; Houston, Texas)
