At 1:30 a.m. on May 18 in Philadelphia, a homeowner woke to find an intruder had broken through their front door. The intruder was carrying a stick, which the homeowner ordered them to drop, but they refused. The homeowner then shot the intruder once in the chest.
The suspect was pronounced dead at the hospital, and no charges were expected to be filed against the homeowner. (delawarevalleynews.com; Bensalem, Pa.; 5/18/26)

Juvernia Shutters was opening her car door in a San Diego, Calif., parking lot when two men approached and asked for her car keys. She refused and the men tried to take her purse. During a struggle with the pair, the 56-year-old jewelry store owner pulled a gun from her waistband and shot one of her assailants. Shutters recovered her purse, which had $15,000 worth of diamonds inside, and a wounded suspect was later apprehended by police. (The Tribune; San Diego, Calif.)
