A new community initiative aimed at reducing gun violence is launched in Columbus’ Wedgewood Apartment Complex, one of the city’s most affected areas. Central Ohio Crime Stoppers, in collaboration with the Ohio Crime Prevention Association, encourages residents to report gunfire anonymously, hoping to empower citizens to take an active role in making their neighborhoods safer.
Residents have received door hangers and posters explaining how to submit tips without revealing their identities, with cash rewards offered for tips leading to arrests. As Malissa Thomas-St. Clair, founder of Mothers of Murdered Columbus Children, emphasizes the importance of community involvement, leaders highlight that “safety starts with everyone” and stress that anonymity is guaranteed to protect those who come forward with information.
