Handguns chambered in full-size rifle cartridges have gone from a niche to commonplace. On the bolt-action end of things, what were once specialized guns for competition and hunting have now become powerful and precise, yet compact, everyday packages. Springfield Armory is jumping into this category, using its 2020 series of bolt-action rifles as the basis for the company’s new-for-2026 Heatseeker pistol.
Like the rifle version, the Heatseeker pistol takes Springfield’s 2020 bolt action and places it in a Sharps Bros. 1913 Heatseeker chassis. The chassis is machined from a single block of 6061-T6 aluminum and has an integral recoil lug. Its compact handguard has multiple M-Lok mounting points, as well as QD swivel spigots, and the design extends over the barrel. The chassis is compatible with AR-pattern grips, and the Heatseeker pistol comes with a B5 Systems P5 grip. A rear Picatinny rail section can be used to attach pistol stabilizing braces or other accessories.
Currently offered in .308 Win., the Heatseeker pistol feeds from an AICS-pattern magazine and uses a five-round metal version. The action is paired with a 12-inch stainless steel barrel with 1:10-inch twist rate that has its muzzle threaded 5/8×24 TPI and it comes with a Springfield radial muzzle brake installed. All metal parts are given a Graphite Black Cerakote, except for the fluted bolt, which has a nitride finish. A user-adjustable TriggerTech trigger completes the package. The Heatseeker pistol has an overall length of 22.5 inches and weighs 6 pounds.
