Quail Forever announces the acquisition of an 80-acre parcel near Centerville, enhancing public hunting access and boosting habitat for quail populations. The new land, located adjacent to existing wildlife management areas at Rathbun Lake, includes prairie enrolled in the Conservation Reserve Program, providing essential resources for quail conservation.
This parcel will be integrated into the Iowa Habitat and Access Program, which allows public hunting and effective habitat management. Eric Sytsma, Quail Forever’s habitat protection officer, emphasizes that this property is crucial for expanding efforts to support Iowa’s growing quail population, where hunters harvested approximately 27,500 quail in 2024. With over 750 chapters nationwide, Quail Forever’s initiatives have positively impacted more than 28.8 million acres of habitat across the United States.
