Seattle police officers fatally shoot a man who threatened them with a gun after responding to reports of an armed individual in south Seattle. The incident unfolded around 4:15 p.m. on October 30, prompting officers to first use “less lethal force” to communicate with the man, later identified as 46-year-old Jack Paleli.
Bodycam video shows Paleli drawing a firearm and pointing it at the officers, leading them to discharge their weapons. Despite immediate first aid efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene. This shooting marks the first such incident since the lifting of a federal consent decree intended to address issues of excessive force in the Seattle Police Department. The King County Sheriff’s Office is now investigating the case under the state’s Independent Investigative Team protocol.
