Local hunters in Door and Kewaunee counties saw themselves aligning with a statewide trend of decreased deer harvests following the recent gun-deer season. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources reports a total of 182,084 deer harvested statewide—a 0.8 percent decline from last year—driven largely by a 2.6 percent drop in antlered deer due to unfavorable weather conditions during the holiday weekend.
Specifically, Door County experienced a 4.5 percent drop in deer kills this year, totaling 2,223, while Kewaunee County faced an even steeper decline of 13.2 percent, resulting in 1,629 harvested deer. Despite these reductions, overall deer harvests for 2025 are up 1.1 percent since archery season began in September, with opportunities available for hunters through the ongoing muzzleloader season and extended archery periods into January.
