Hunters and anglers like to strut around in well-worn gear like they’ve earned a merit badge. Scuffed-up rifle stocks, blood-stained jackets, and threadbare packs usually tell a good story in the rips and stains. Well-earned wear is one…

In 2022, Savage Arms entered the polymer-frame, concealed-carry pistol marketplace with the release of a striker-fired subcompact semi-automatic named the Stance. This single-stack 9 mm Luger shipped with a seven-round flush-fit magazine and an extended eight-rounder. It proved to be slim, reliable and its design worked to tame the often-snappy recoil of 9 mm handguns of such small size. Savage reworked this pistol platform in 2025 to incorporate desirable features not available in the first iteration. Dubbed the Stance XR, these new features include a larger-capacity double-stack magazine, an integral trigger safety and an innovative approach to providing customers with…

Author’s Note: I am not affiliated with Glock or the Glock Sport Shooting Foundation other than volunteering as a range officer at their matches and shooting their matches. JWR likes to say that owning a gun doesn’t make you a shooter any more than owning a surfboard makes you a surfer. You need to learn, train, and practice. Practical pistol disciplines such as International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA) and International Practical Shooting Confederation (IPSC) are outstanding ways to practice, but they can be intimidating to the novice. That’s where the Glock Sport Shooting Foundation, or GSSF fits in. Glock started…
On December 23, 1913, US President Woodrow Wilson signed the Federal Reserve Act into law, creating the central banking Federal Reserve System. This law granted extraordinary monetary and economic power to a private banking cartel. The destruction of the purchasing power of the U.S. Dollar was a key result. (It has declined 98%, since 1913.) I recommend the book The Creature from Jekyll Island: A Second Look at the Federal Reserve. – JWR — December 23rd is the birthday of Founding Father and Supreme Court Justice John Jay. (Born 1745, died May 17, 1829.) — SurvivalBlog Writing Contest Today we…
Armed Citizen® Today On the evening of Dec. 10 at a bar in Muncie, Ind., a 53-year-old man allegedly punched a female bartender and then spit on her, on another employee and on another customer. The cover of the Finnish Civil Guard magazine Hakkapeliitta showcases shooter V. Miinalainen who won a gold medal at the 1935 World Shooting Championship in Rome with a koekivääri m/30 rifle. Shooting sports have always been a part of Finnish culture. In the early 1920s, the Finnish Shooting Sport Federation (Suomen Ampumaurheiluliito or SAL) sought ways for military shooters to represent Finland in international competitions, but the standard Finnish service rifle of the time, the Mosin-Nagant m/91, lacked the accuracy needed of a target rifle. The solution was for SAL to develop a series of test rifles called “koekivääri.” The…
