Lightweight, specialized shotguns with pistol grips, shorter barrels, constricted chokes, and red dots have taken over turkey hunting. Paired with heavy payloads of tungsten super shot (TSS)—and properly patterned—these guns can be deadly, especially at a distance. However, there are a few narratives surrounding turkey guns that give hunters a false sense of confidence when a tom struts into shooting range. Don’t get me wrong, turkey guns can help you anchor a gobbler, but there are always trade-offs in the shotgun game, no matter the platform and load you select. What’s most important is that you pick a shotgun, shotshell, and…
The one upgrade you can make to a truck that will result in the most noticeable difference while driving is suspension. If you spend a good amount of time driving on washboard roads and rutted-up two-tracks, or maybe your county is just behind on mending potholes, a good suspension system will aid in smoothing out your ride by absorbing those bumps and holes in a controlled manner. To be clear, I’m not recommending a giant lift kit that requires a ladder to get into your pickup. But high-quality shocks and coilovers from brands like Fox, Bilstein, KING, Falcon, and a handful…

On December 1st, 2025, I put my foot in the stirrup of a white mule named Snowy River and threw my leg over the saddle. Over the next five days, he’d carry me 80 miles through some of the roughest ground in Southwest Utah in search of a mountain lion. Snowy River belongs to McClain and Hunter Mecham, a father and son team native to Utah, both lifelong mountain lion hunters and mule men. Also accompanying us on the hunt would be nationally known mule trainer and clinician Ty Evans of TS Mules. The following five days would take me…

Winchester Ammunition has 160 years of delivering reliability and performance in its products, but there’s another reason for the enviable longevity. Its generosity toward the community is just as unfailing, a fact that showed in two of the company’s March announcements. Children/Families Facing Health ChallengesWinchester and White Flyer—part of the Winchester family of firms—announced their 27th year of support of the Kids & Clays Foundation. They will be providing ammunition, targets and merchandise for Kids & Clays events across the country. “Kids & Clays is an organization that has set the standard for utilizing the positivity of the shooting sports to…
For many people, Colt is the benchmark in the AR-15 world. Even as the number of makers offering AR-style rifles has contracted in recent years, there are still so many that it can be difficult to track. At times, Colt has focused its attention on the military and law-enforcement markets, seeming casually indifferent to the demands of the civilian market while competitors have come and gone. Through it all, the standard of comparison has often remained the Colt 6920 model, which is the commercial fraternal twin to the military-issue M4 carbine. New to the market now is the Colt Enhanced…
00:00:00 Speaker 1: Where the innovations in medical research have gone. And now how affordable that is for consumers, you know, like no different than how expensive it was to buy a PC in the eighties and now which you can buy Board’s pretty crazy. I’m pumped about the medical research that’s now going into this technology. You know, there were a lot of good a lot of shoulders that we stand on in terms of medical white papers and physicians and researchers of the past that paved the way for what we’re able to pull from. But it’s pretty…

Like a lot of teenagers of my generation, I played a Role-Playing Game (RPG) called Dungeons and Dragons (“D&D“.) The majority of the players in our smallish-town D&D group were Christians, so we downplayed the wizardry aspect, and concentrated on adventure and combat. We also shunned most cosplay and Live-Action Roleplaying. (“LARPing”.) This was in the late 1970s, so we had access to just the small-format Chainmail book and the first three D&D boxed-set rulebooks developed by Gary Gygax, et al. This was long before the more popular large-format Advanced D&D books were published. One key aspect of characters in…
