If you really want to counter the chaos grifters of the political left in the US, then you have to be willing to offer a coherent and consistent plan which dissolves the chaos they thrive on. Planning eases instability. Consistency defeats confusion. Clarity squashes disorder. The public needs to see a comprehensive list of standards, actions and goals and they don’t like it when their leaders suddenly derail the train. When it comes to economics, vision is meaningless. Every idiot out there has an economic “vision”, very few people have any idea how to get from Point A to Point…

Despite the dismal state of civilian firearm-ownership rights in Mexico, the country has a long history of both innovative indigenous gun designs and firearm manufacturing. Mendoza Firearms is one part of that heritage, and the company recently began exporting one of its rifles to the U.S., the RM22 rimfire. Mendoza Firearms makes a variety of firearms, including military, law enforcement and sporting models. Mendoza has a high-tech production facility in the Xochimilco neighborhood of Mexico City. Founded by Rafael Mendoza Blanco in 1911, Mendoza got his start producing firearms to arm the Mexican Revolution. Over the decades, he designed and…

To be prepared for a crisis, every Prepper must establish goals and make both long-term and short-term plans. In this column, the SurvivalBlog editors review their week’s prep activities and planned prep activities for the coming week. These range from healthcare and gear purchases to gardening, ranch improvements, bug-out bag fine-tuning, and food storage. This is something akin to our Retreat Owner Profiles, but written incrementally and in detail, throughout the year. We always welcome you to share your own successes and wisdom in your e-mailed letters. We post many of those — or excerpts thereof — in the Odds…
In the past if anyone had asked me if it were possible to reload aluminum-case autoloading pistol rounds I would have said no. Is it possible? Yes and no is my answer now. It’s not a good idea though, in my opinion. In the milder seasons of the year we do a lot of pistol shooting. Recently, at a spot that at least three generations of shooters use I noticed a pile of spent aluminum .45 ACP cases. I knew the ammunition existed but had never seen any for sale in this area. Examining one, I noticed that it had…

I Like the Nightlife … My backyard is far busier at night than I ever suspected. Sure, I knew we had plenty of critters, including possums, foxes, raccoons, rabbits, feral cats, deer, the occasional coyote and on even rarer occasion, otters. But the only ones I see frequently are the deer and a raccoon now and then. The coyotes are, as you likely know, skittish and tough to spot. But when the thermal lights go on, they all appear like a lottery winner’s long-lost relatives. Just point the P13 toward the tree line, and those hidden residents suddenly glow like…
Mossberg was one of the first innovators within the “non-NFA, shotshell-firing firearm” space with the introduction of its pump-action 590 Shockwave in 2017. The hallmark of the design was its bird’s head grip configuration, which allowed the firearm to be equipped with a shortened 14.5” barrel while remaining at an overall length of just over 26”. Soon after, several other companies followed with variants of this non-NFA design, including some semi-automatic models. But Mossberg stuck with its pump-action Shockwave until 2025, when the company released its semi-automatic 990 Aftershock. Watch our “Gun Of The Week” video above to see the…
