(Continued from Part 1.) CLASSES OF PREPPERS Truly prepared preppers – These preppers took things seriously, even if the chance of a SHTF event wasn’t highly probable. They weighed the probabilities against the consequences of not being prepared and chose to prepare. For many, the self-reliance skills learned, knowledge gained, and talents developed while prepping made it worth it, SHTF or not. The psychological benefit of being ready for anything is also a big plus. The most prepared preppers will have a written plan to employ as soon as they realize that today’s The Day. They’ve done simulations and practice…
October 8, 1480: Great Stand on the Ugra River: A standoff between the forces of Akhmat Khan, Khan of the Great Horde, and Ivan III, Grand Prince of all Rus (pictured), ended with a Tatar-Mongol retreat, leading to the disintegration of the Horde. Ivan III, a.k.a. Ivan The Great, sometimes referred to as the “gatherer of the Russian lands”, tripled the territory of his state, ended the dominance of the Golden Horde over the Rus, renovated the Moscow Kremlin, and laid the foundations of the Russian state. — October 8th, 1947 was the birthday of economist and libertarian commentator J.…
Earlier this fall, a hunter shot his first archery bull elk deep in the northern Idaho backcountry—and then accidentally stabbed himself in the leg while processing his kill. It’s the kind of freak accident that could befall any hunter. Here’s how it went down and the lessons from the harrowing experience.Benjamin Wardell of Post Falls, Idaho, had been archery hunting for five or six years without accomplishing what many Western hunters consider to be the pinnacle of big game bowhunting: tagging a bull elk. On the second weekend of September, Wardell took his dirt bike up a ridge on rugged…

Ruger, one of the nation’s leading firearm manufacturers, recently made another major donation to the Kids & Clays Foundation in support of the organization’s national sporting clay series. 00:00:01 Speaker 1: With his international fame as the most American of artists. I’m Dan Flores, and this is the American West, brought to you by Velvet Buck Wine. Where the hunt meets the harvest. A portion of each battle goes to support backcountry hunters and anglers. All of this story can’t be validated, but it makes for a good tale and adds interest to this beautifully engraved custom Hi-Standard Model A handgun. The pistol was manufactured in New Haven, Conn., in late 1940. It was shipped as a Model “A,” but a heavier Model “D” barrel was installed later to replace the original, light barrel. The reasoning for this is unknown, but it does improve the pistol’s balance and handling, so I call it a Model “A-D.” My involvement with it began at the 2012 Colorado Gun Collectors Show in Denver. A young man approached my…

The 2011-style pistol was designed to address the capacity limitations of the single-stack M1911 platform, pairing the typically superb single-action trigger of Browning’s legendary design with the greater firepower afforded by a double-stack magazine—and guns of this type are among the hottest trends in the handgun world right now. Though many manufacturers have released their own takes in recent years, one major name had been absent from the roster—until now. With much anticipation, Kimber America has entered the arena with its competition-ready 2K11. The 2K11 is a hammer-fired, semi-automatic pistol available in either .45 ACP or 9 mm Luger. Both…
