The U.S. Supreme Court ruled 9-0 in United States v. Hemani. The Court decided that the federal statute that prohibits the possession or ownership of firearms by a person who “is an unlawful user of or addicted to any controlled substance” violates the Second Amendment when applied to regular marijuana users. This ruling could impact individuals who wants to purchase a firearm from a federal firearms licensee. On June 4, 2026, the Appellate Court of Maryland ruled that law enforcement cannot stop and search a person merely because they see a gun—or the outline of one printing from a concealed holster. This case is Steven Hicks v. State of Maryland. This decision marks a post-New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v.
